| Code of Ethical Conduct Established
Saint Paul, Manila and Cebu - September 4, 2008, AcademyHealth, along with the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and a taskforce of diverse stakeholders released of the Voluntary Code of Ethical Conduct for the Recruitment of Foreign-Educated Nurses to the United States (the Code) at the National Press Club. The Task Force (authors) was composed of representatives of health care organizations, educational and licensure bodies, unions and recruiters, notably Patrick Page, President & CEO of Saint John’s Health Network.
St. John’s Health Network is proud to endorse the Code and confirm it is in full compliance. SJHN further extends the Voluntary Code of Ethical Conduct for the Recruitment of Foreign-Educated Nurses to the United States to govern all its work.
The groups joined forces to provide voluntary guidelines that aim to ensure the growing practice of recruiting foreign-educated nurses to the U.S. is done in a responsible and transparent manner. The Code of Conduct provides voluntary guidelines that aim to ensure that the growing practice of recruiting foreign-educated nurses is done in a responsible and ethical manner. It is designed to increase transparency and accountability throughout the process of international recruitment and ensure adequate orientation for nurses. It also provides guidance on ways to ensure recruitment is not harmful to source countries.
The Code of Conduct has been endorsed by numerous groups including the American Hospital Association, the American Nurses Association, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), and multiple associations of internationally educated nurses.
